Artworks Around Town presents Roger Hoard at Coffee House in January
Born in Sutton, West Virginia and raised in the Akron , Ohio area, Roger Hoard began guitar lessons at age 11. Along with his
younger brother, Don, he began appearing on WSLR's Southern Jamboree radio show in 1966. In 1968, the two made their first
appearance on WWVA's Jamboree. In 1971, Roger joined WWVA's staff band, "The Wheelers". He went on to become the
bandleader of "Country Roads" until he left the Jamboree in 1976.
In 1982, Roger formed the "Other Brothers Band" with Jamie Peck, Dennis Fitzpatrick, and Don Hoard. In 1983, they
became The Jamboree USA Staff Band, and, later on, the "11/70 Band". From 1989-1998, Roger served as Musical Director for both
Jamboree USA and Jamboree in the Hills.
Roger has been the featured guitarist for B.E. Taylor for 5 years. He continues to tour with B.E., as well as "The Fabulous
Bender Boys". He also plays solo performances.
Hoard has studied classical guitar with Dr. Nels Leonard at West Liberty State College and Ken Karsh of Duquesne
University. Throughout the years, he has performed with Chet Atkins, Lenny Breau, Steve Wariner, and Brad Paisley. Roger lists
Don Rich, Chet Atkins, Lenny Breau, Duane Allman, Lowell George, Phil Keaggy, Johnny Smith, Jim Hall, and Pat Metheny as his
musical influences.
Roger will be the featured performer at Artworks Around Town’s Coffee House on Friday, January 15th, 2010. The Coffee House doors will be open at 7 pm. Open Mike time will begin at 7:30 pm and Sophia’s performance will start at 8:30 pm. We are a family environment and beverages and snacks will be available.
